Another Chinese brand is making a play for top spot in the Australian new-car market: Geely is gunning for the top 10 with its Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7-fighting EX5 SUV.

Trouble for the Tesla Model Y, Leapmotor C10, BYD Atto 3 and Kia EV5? New Chinese electric car Geely EX5 confirmed to feature ahead of local release, with price tipped to start under $50,000.

New Chinese car is custom-made for Aussie conditions with local tuning done for 2025 Geely EX5 as it gets ready to take on the Tesla Model Y, Leapmotor C10 and BYD Sealion 7.

This is the latest arrival on our roads, priced from $43,490 (before on-road costs) for the base Complete model and $47,490 for the fully-loaded Inspire model.

The prices were leaked on car valuation site Redbook before an official announcement from the brand was made.

And well below the heavily discounted – and soon to be replaced – Model Y at $55,000, the updated Model Y range starts from $63,400.

That vehicle has a driving range of up to 430km.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 238 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, and drives the front wheels.

It can be charged at up to 100 kilowatts with a suitable fast charger and 11 kilowatts when plugged into an AC wallbox charger.
